"Sons Of Bitches Like Us". --"The woods are overrun and sons of bitches like me are half the problem." -Colin Fletcher 1971-- Stream valley parks in Northern Virginia see very heavy recreational use. This image, from my "Difficult Run: Dreamscapes and Nightmares Along Four Northern Virginia Streams" project, shows bank erosion due to social trails along Scott's Run in Scott's Run Nature Preserve, McLean, VA. Also visible is an access road and hiker crossing that causes an unnatural shallow area in the stream bed devoid of substrate and provides potential for blockage and further stream erosion during storms.
